The main difference between the ‘Garba’ and ‘Dandiya’ dance is that Garba is performed before ‘Aarti’ (worshipping ritual) as devotional performances in the honour of the Goddess while Dandiya is performed after it, as a part of merriment .Dandiya is also known as ‘stick dance’ as performers use a pair of decorated sticks as props, the circular movements of Dandiya Raas are slightly more complex than that of Garba. The dancers strike the sticks with their partners to the rhythm of the music. The stick here is a representation of the sword used by goddess Durga to fight
Mahishasura, Sometimes instead of sticks, people also use “Swords” to play dandiya. Whereas, Garba consists of various hand and feet movements. While playing garba a persons claps and spins to the music in a circle.  Most of the Dandiya steps require even number of people while in Garba there is no such requirement on number of people.
